Dieses Porträt wurde wahrscheinlich gemacht, während die Prinzessin von Condé nach ihrer Hochzeit um 1609 in Brüssel war. Rubens, war vor kurzem aus Italien zurückgekehrt und würde weiter gehen, um die quintessential Barockkünstler der Counter-Reformation Periode. Die historische Anekdote erzählt uns, dass die Prinzessin zwar eher blass und überwältigt von ihrem Kostüm erscheint, sie als Schönheit betrachtete und nach ihrer Heirat nach Brüssel geflohen war, um den Fortschritten des Königs Henri IV zu entkommen. Ein Highlight dieses prächtigen Porträts ist die wunderschön bemalte leuchtende Haut von Rubens.
