In 1896, Fernand Massignon (who worked under the name Pierre Roche) was asked to create two medallions for the façade of the Théâtre de Tulle in Corréze, France. Roche asked Loïe Fuller to model for them and they were exhibited at the Salon de la Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts in 1901. To make the medallions, Roche created a model of the dancer’s face in the manner of Greek theater masks: Comedy and Drama. Roche was a close friend of Fuller and produced more work inspired by the dancer than any other period artist.
