Biography:

Francisco José de Artiga y Orús was a Spanish painter, engraver, architect, writer, mathematician, astronomer and teacher born in Huesca in 1645 and died in 1711. He was a versatile and prolific artist, known for his work in various fields such as painting, engraving, architecture, literature, mathematics, astronomy and teaching. He was a professor of mathematics at the University of Huesca and was responsible for the design and construction of its facade. He also wrote several books on various subjects, including a treatise on perspective, a retoric in verse and a treatise on monetary policy. He was also a skilled engraver and made several engravings, including one of the University of Huesca and another of the monetary treatise of Vincencio Juan de Lastanosa. He was also involved in the construction of the Arguis dam and wrote a treatise on poliorcética. He was a member of the intellectual circle of Vincencio Juan de Lastanosa and was known for his lively and extravagant personality.
