Boy standing in front of a work table in an interior of a study. On the table an open book, map, lute, ink set, globe and a statue of Venus. Against the wall shelves with books and a map on rolls. In the foreground are on the floor a book, a map and a plaster head. On the right a staircase to the upper floor, on the stairs a girl walks with a book under the arm. In the middle a pillar with a painting with child's portrait. In the past, the boy was wrongly identified as Hugo de Groot.
