Artist: Aleksandar Dimitrijević
Date: 2005
Size: 220 x 220 cm
Technique: Oil On Board
In his works, Dimitrijević uses the surface of the painting like a chart in which he inserts numerical and linear values. With a focus on the issues of free time and the ways in which we spend time, the artist covers these surfaces with notches representing passing time and signs associated with the games played in time, as well as images of calendars, indicating duration. He produces his works in dialogue with the post-Soviet artistic context where the organisation of time and the concept of “free time” became prominent as frequently discussed themes. In his quest for depicting free time, he employs scribbling as the most adequate form for this purpose. His paintings produced in various sizes include carelessly taken notes, random interventions with paints, and also with numbers obscurely suggestive of an operation or a form of record keeping. In
