His participation in movements in favor of worker housing is revealed through this piece of neo-expressionist tendency, endowed with a strong plastic art style despite it being made up of a few elements. Without disregarding figuration, he abstracts and reduces the object in his eyes into an elemental synthesis, through thick brushstrokes and layers of colors that reveal the heartbreaking essence of poverty and loneliness. The contrasts of light and shadows allow discerning a bed inside a simple unornamented room, to which the artist dedicates the entire horizontal area of the canvas, making the narrowness of the space stand out. With the previous, the author manages to make a metaphor out of the painting that speaks of the limitations of its inhabitant, whose anguish is predicted in the messy sheets. The small room’s muted shades make the bed’s white tones stand out, accentuating the dramatic quality and emotion that the author gives the nocturnal setting and that envelops this work acquired for the collection in 1994.
