Artist: Antoinette Wysocki Sanchez
Museum: ArtsWestchester (White Plains, United States)
Technique: Charcoal
From the Artist: During “ Shelter In Place,” and having to homeschool I began a project with my children toteach them how to make pigments. I was inspired by the delicateness of the pigments and created a body of work in which the material would be the inspiration. The quietness of the mediums referenced my emotional state at the time. I used elderberry - one of the homeopathic treatments that might protect us from the virus - to make a vibrant and deep tone. Daffodils were blooming in my garden as a sign of hope to come. As they dried, they got more intensely yellow, each pigment marking time. The organic imagery and symbolism throughout the pieces reflect my experience of “ Shelter In Place,” as I tried to use my art as a tool to keep me safe.
