The composition in the work, made on paper by Bogdan Przybyliński, using ink and charcoal, is a layout of horizontally piled up forms, with each of them characterised by the freedom of depiction. The vigour and freehand movements featured in the work resemble expressionist styles of painting, and add unique energy to the picture – the energy is oriented horizontally and directed outside the frame. This impression is further enhanced by a brighter strip located in the middle of the composition, which looks like a trace of movement or expansion progressing outwards.Earth belongs to a series of works under the same name, and constitutes one of many examples of the diversified work by this artist. The series uses abstract language and creates archetypical pictures, which evoke the issues related to the inevitability of the natural processes of shaping, moving, growing and dying. The dramatic effects found in the works marked by existential reflections are based on the dynamics of movement and its inevitability. It may seem that the function of the artist is somewhat suspended between imitating and creating, and between being an observer and a demiurge. [F. Pręgowski]
