Artist: Constantin Hansen

Size: 55 x 40 cm
Museum: Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek (Copenhagen, Denmark)
Technique: Oil On Canvas
In contrast to the fairly cautious life studies painted by Eckersberg’s pupils at the Academy in Copenhagen, Hansen’s nude is unashamedly erotic. The girl was painted during one of the artist’s stays in Rome, possibly there were fewer guardians of morality there than back home. The picture is one of the most sensuous from the Danish Golden Age, and celebrates Woman’s anatomy without sideways glances at academic studies.
