Descent from the Cross – (Corrado De Mochis) Previous Next

Artist:

Size: 5 x 62 cm

Museum: Veneranda Fabbrica del Duomo di Milano (Milan, Italy)

Technique: Panel

This panel was made by Corrado de Mochis in the mid-16th century, based on a cartoon by a German master. In all likelihood, it was originally destined for the large apse window V19 of Milan Duomo, in which the stories of the New Testament are depicted. The panel represents the tragic deposition of the dead Jesus Christ being carried down from the cross in the presence of Mary and the bystanders. The work is currently on display in the Milan Duomo Museum, in the room dedicated to the oldest stained-glass windows.
