Labino, along with Harvey Littleton, founded the Studio Glass movement in 1962. During two, now historic, glassblowing workshops at the Toledo Museum of Art, their inventions shifted glassmaking from being mass-produced in factories to the unique glass works made by artists in independent studios. In this work from his “Emergence” series, Labino has blown immaculately clear glass sculpture with three flames of colored glass trapped inside that radiate in hues of golden-red and violet.
