After marrying Prince Boris Andreyevich Golitsyn, Princess Boris (1763–1842), as she came to be called, raised a family of eight children. She also possessed of one of the largest fortunes in the empire and hosted an influential salon in St. Petersburg.For this monumental portrait, she wears at-home dress: a delicate chemise dress with a short-sleeved silk peignoir distinguished by a range of lush complementary colors. Her exotic crimson turban is decorated with a panache of feathers.
