The Queen is depicted in all the dignity of her office. She is draped in the royal mantle decorated with fleur-de-lis and lined with ermine. Her tall wig, so fashionable at the time, is embellished with flowers held in place by a ribbon. At her neck, the Sovereign wears a large medallion with the profile of Louis XVI. The work was shown at the Salon in 1783. Marie-Antoinette was then twenty-eight years old, she had been Queen of France for nine years and was the mother of two children.Full title : Marie-Antoinette, Queen of France (1755-1793)
