Artist: Giovanni Benedetto Castiglione
Date: 1660
Museum: Castelvecchio Museum (Verona, Italy)
Technique: Oil On Copper
The painting, depicting the Madonna seated with the Child in her arms and flying angels, recalls the art of Grechetto represented in Verona between the 17th and 18th centuries, with the characteristic journeys of shepherds, animals and allegorical subjects. The work, executed directly on copper, uses a language modulated in continuous, vibrant passages from semitransparent layers, that allow the slab to be seen, to flickering touches of bright color.
