Date: 1910

Size: 115 x 101 cm

Museum: Parliament of Poland (Warsaw, Poland)

Technique: Oil On Canvas

A birch in the foreground in lush meadow grass, its crown widespread; wall of young forest (grove) in the background with distinctive pine trees; landscape topped with cloudy, foggy sky. Figures of three peasant women picking mushrooms visible in the landscape – one standing near the birch, two searching tall grass flanking the shrubbery. The style of the work references landscapes by artists of the French Barbizon School, and 19th-century Polish landscapists. Distinct veristic approach to floral life and toned colours with rusty browns dominating in a suggestive rendering of moods of autumn.
