De la Torre y del Cerro, the famous Cordoban archivist, was requested by the Junta Superior de Archivos, Bibliotecas y Museos (Network of Libraries, Archives and Museums) under the authority of the Ministerio de Instrucción Pública y Bellas Artes (Ministry of Public Works), to examine the municipal, parochial and notarial archives of Cordoba and the main towns of the encompassing province in 1915, 1923 and 1929. He had to “visit the archives of municipalities and other special non-incorporated ones, for the purposes of […] saving the wealth of historical records”. He documented in his reports the condition of the archives, their physical state, and the existence and quality of inventories.
