Cuidado con el perro (Beware of the dog) is a work by the Spanish artist Laura Lasheras, known as Lusesita (Calahorra, Spain, 1979). Lusesita, one of Spain’s new talents in ceramics, skilfully combines organic shapes, rough fabrics and innocent pastel tones with mischievously macabre details. In Beware of the Dog, she plays with the relationship between a work and its title, naming the sculpture of an apparently harmless poodle in pastel tones. As she herself explains, it is a matter of contrasting “what is sweet, soft or delicate with sensations such as hardness, fear or danger”. The result: a growing collection of strange creations, ambiguous beings that mix wit, eroticism and visual poetry.
