Family portrait of Aernout van Beeftingh (1759-1831) with his first wife Jacoba Maria Boon (1760-1800) and their children in an interior. The mother sits on her lap with the youngest son Nicolaas Marinus (b. 1796). On her left is Johanna Adriana (1787-1828), with a sock fair in her right and a hat in her left hand. On the ground is Joshua (1789-1835), leaning on one arm and with a whip in the hand. Aernout van Beeftingh sits at a round table with a print in his hand. Nicolaas (1783-1858) walks right with a wallet to an open art cabinet, Pieter (1794-1875) sits with a trap cap in a high chair.
