Ocean Travels is a work by the Chinese artist Li Xiaofeng (Hubei, China, 1968), and takes its name from the fact that the pieces of porcelain that make it up look like waves. Broken china takes on a new life in his one-of-a-kind creations. He painstakingly reworks fragments of pottery into clothing and costumes, “reordered landscapes”; of Chinese history, culture and collective memory. Post-orientalist jewels that combine poetry, majesty, and an unmistakable contemporary air. These fragments from the Song, Ming, Yuan, and Qing dynasties are meticulously shaped, polished, and arranged into pieces that masterfully blend ancient and contemporary visual languages.
