Este retrato de dos escions adolescentes de una familia eminente fue muy probablemente encargado por su madre viuda. En lugar de representar una finca de campo real, Cuyp colocó un castillo arruinado en el fondo, evocando el linaje antiguo de los sitters. Caballos Astridos, acompañados de retenedores y sabuesos, los dos jóvenes representan como cazadores adecuados, listos en cualquier momento para partir para la conquista de su presa. La habilidad de Cuyp como pintor paisajista está en tensión con la relativa arrogancia de las figuras.
