Ir a KHARTOUMOn 31 de enero, el von Hallwyls embarque un tren en Wadi Halfa para viajar a Jartum. Esta fotografía parece haber sido tomada durante una parada en algún lugar del camino. El 2 de febrero, el tren ha recorrido los 900 kilómetros, y Ida Uhse ofrece una descripción de Jartum: “Está muy caliente aquí. La construcción del hotel está siendo terminada, y a tiempo será un lugar espléndido para los ingleses. Jartum está a orillas del Nilo. Hasta ahora, el Mahdi, el temido dervish, había aniquilado las ciudades y pueblos que no se someterían. También ha estado devastando y destruyendo en la orilla norte del Nilo. El poder del Mahdi fue terminado por el general Gordon en la batalla de Omdurman en 1885.
