Al menos ocho versiones de esta tierna imagen salieron del taller de Van Dyck, y ésta es a la vez el mejor y menos acabado ejemplo. Las pinceladas desprotegidas de fluidos siguen sin cesar un desprendimiento inciso, que debe haber sido trazado de un dibujo preparatorio. Van Dyck habría mantenido este panel en su estudio como modelo para pinturas más terminadas por sí mismo y por asistentes.
