Los hermanos Le Nain son famosos por su sensible retrato de la vida rural, que representaron sin el ridículo encontrado en muchas imágenes anteriores. A menudo es difícil distinguir cuál de los tres hermanos ejecutó una pintura dada, y este aceite sobre cobre se ha atribuido tanto a Antoine como a Louis. Un nuevo gusto por el realismo a mediados del siglo XVIII solidificó el lugar de los hermanos Le Nain en un canon de pintura francesa que incluyó a Gustave Courbet y Edouard Manet.
