El retratista real de la corte Saxon pintó esta semejanza del príncipe y la exhibió en la Academia de Bellas Artes el 5 de marzo de 1791. Alexander Mikhailovich lleva el traje de un camarero imperial; la piel ermina que cubre su abrigo manifiesta su exaltado estatus principal. En la parte posterior de la camilla de la pintura hay una etiqueta de inventario manuscrita que dice: “[No.] 31. [Propiedad de] Princess Kochubey.” La etiqueta significa que este retrato estaba en la colección de la nuera de Alexander, la princesa Elena Pavlovna, casada con el príncipe Vasilii Viktorovich Kochubey (1812-1850).
