Esta fotografía es una de las pocas imágenes que se pueden asignar claramente a Arnold Schönberg como fotógrafo sobre la base de su propia firma. Usó una simple cámara de caja Kodak; por lo tanto sus limitaciones técnicas fueron pronunciadas – muchas de las fotos estaban fuera de foco o erróneamente expuestas. Schönberg debe haber utilizado un soporte muy cuidadosamente para los retratos de su esposa Mathilde dentro del apartamento (Berlin Zehlendorf, Machnower Chaussee " Dietloffstraße, Villa Lepcke) para alcanzar su enfoque comparativamente agudo.
