Domenico Cesa-Bianchi (1879-1956), alumno de Camillo Golgi en Pavia de 1899 a 1904, después de su grado, se dedicó durante mucho tiempo a estudios morfológicos en Pavia y Frankfurt am Main. Obtuvo enseñanza adicional en histología patológica en 1909 y en patología médica especial en 1913. Desde 1909 se trasladó a la Universidad de Milán, inicialmente asistente médico de Luigi Devoto a la Clínica del Trabajo, luego médico primario en el Ospedale Maggiore (1922), profesor encargado de patología médica especial y finalmente profesor pleno (1926).
