Una escultora afroamericana preeminente, Meta Fuller creó la emancipación en la celebración del 50 aniversario de la Proclamación de la Emancipación. La escultura alegórica representa figuras masculinas y femeninas que emergen del árbol del conocimiento en el centro de la escultura. La emancipación está ahora en exhibición en Harriet Tubman Park en el South End de Boston. La escultura es propiedad del Museo del Centro Nacional de Artistas Afroamericanos.
