Caravaggio ( 1571-1610 ) pintó dos versiones de la cabeza de medusa . El primero en 1596 y el otro presumiblemente en 1597/8 . la primera versión también conocida como murtula , debido al poeta que escribió al respecto ( 48x55 centímetro ) está firmado michel af , ( michel angelo fecit ) y fue encontrado en el painter’s estudio solo después de su muerte . Actualmente pertenece a una colección privada mientras que la segunda versión , ligeramente más grande ( 60 x 55 centímetro ) no está firmado y está en la galería de los uffizi , en florencia .
