Un devoto san Antonio mira hacia el cielo, ¿pero a qué? Las historias adjuntas a su vida pueden ofrecer una pista. La leyenda dice que el niño Cristo se le apareció en una visión divina. Esta pintura estrecha probablemente perteneció a un retablo multipanel cuya imagen central representaba a la Virgen y al Niño. San Antonio les habría estado ofreciendo sus oraciones. Famoso por su impresionante realismo, Carlo Crivelli trata cada detalle de esta figura con su estilo preciso, desde las venas en la frente del santo hasta los giros de su cinturón de cuerda. Los lirios, que simbolizan la pureza de Anthony, están tan crujientemente definidos que casi se ven como piedra de cincelada. 83.585
