Chenxian era un pintor chino, que se cree que representa a los primeros pintores alrededor de “Obaku-shu”, una secta religiosa de Zen a mediados del siglo XVII. No visitó Japón durante su vida, pero muchos de sus obras fueron llevadas por monjes chinos que fueron a Japón. El estilo fuerte e inusual de la pintura de tinta de Chenxian dio graves impactos a los pintores japoneses en Nagasaki. Esta pintura había sido heredada en el templo de Seifukuji establecido en 1677.
