El Contralor General de FinanzasColbert fue el primer ministro de Luis XIV de 1661 a 1683 después de ser el pretendido cardenal Mazarin. Se pone en escena en esta pintura de Claude Lefèvre: Colbert está vestido con un abrigo negro adornado con el orden del Espíritu Santo. Su asiduidad al servicio del soberano es simbolizada por un reloj coronado por una estatuilla de Hércules que apoya el globo, imagen del ministro asumiendo el estado
