Sobre la base de la fecha y edad inscritas del tamiz en la parte delantera de este retrato, Floris Gerritsz van Schoterbosch habría nacido alrededor de 1562. Era hijo de Gerrit Willemsz van Schoterbosch. A partir de 1579, fue registrado bajo el nombre de Florentius Gerardi como estudiante de derecho en la Universidad de Leiden. Más tarde practicó la ley, y el 8 de enero de 1602 fue jurado como concejal en la Corte de Holanda, posición que ocupó hasta su muerte en 1618. En la Corte de Holanda, se unió con los Remonstrantes en su conflicto con los Contra-Remonstrantes. Fue sobrevivido por su viuda, Geertruyt Jansdr van Kerkhoven y sus tres hijos. 13Este retrato replica un prototipo perdido de 1604.
