Una de las numerosas copias de un original perdido por Bouts, este dieciocho fue producido tal vez cincuenta años después de la muerte del maestro. La mejor versión de la composición, ahora en el Art Institute, Chicago, se puede datar sobre la base de evidencia científica entre 1480 y 1495, o poco después de la muerte de Bouts. Bueno en el siglo XVI el taller estaba activo bajo la dirección de los hijos de Dieric, y nuestros paneles bien podrían haber sido pintados por un asistente allí.
