Vigée Le Brun observó que la condesa Golovina (1766-1821) “siempre estaba buscando las noticias literarias de Europa, que, creo, era conocida en su casa tan pronto como en París”. El tamiz está envuelto en una gran estola roja, como si se protegiera de los rigores del invierno ruso. Tal vez la obra más original de la época rusa del artista, el retrato recuerda La Frileuse (Winter) de Jean Antoine Houdon, una versión de bronce que se reproduce aquí.
