Durante el Festival de Unspunnen, Vigée Le Brun se alojó con Franz Niklaus König, un pintor de género cuyo trabajo influyó en sus representaciones de los participantes en el festival. Deseando recitar su bondad, recordó: “La única expresión de gratitud que pude hacer que el Sr. y la Sra. König aceptaran era mi retrato en aceite, que les envié desde París”. La artista se presenta de una manera sencilla, cabeza apretada al marco, mirando hacia fuera.
