Lector ávido y político deslumbrado, ejerció gran influencia sobre su esposo, Friedrich Wilhelm III de Prusia. El artista pintó el retrato en París de un estudio pastel anterior hecho de la vida. La paleta es pálida y la técnica es suave y muy terminada.
