Esta escena, que es inusualmente anécdota para una obra de Eugène Boudin, describe la vida sencilla del país en la granja Saint-Siméon en Honfleur, cerca de Le Havre. En 1854 Boudin alquilaba espacio allí y reunió a seguidores de la pintura al aire libre. Gustave Courbet y Claude Monet se unieron más tarde a esta primera colonia de artistas en el estuario de Sena.
