Un barómetro es un instrumento utilizado para recopilar datos meteorológicos midiendo cambios en la presión atmosférica. Según la inscripción, este barómetro fue diseñado para prever el tiempo en el archipiélago filipino, como propuso el Padre Federico Faura. Federico Faura (1840–97) fue un sacerdote jesuita español que enseñó matemáticas y creó el Observatorio Meteorológico del Ateneo Municipal de Manila, ahora conocido como el Observatorio de Manila.
