Los famosos frescos, el Triunfo de la Muerte, con escenas acompañantes del Último Juicio, el Infierno y las Leyendas de los Hermits fueron atribuidos durante mucho tiempo a Francesco Traini. Estos, entre las pinturas italianas sobresalientes del siglo XIV, fueron gravemente dañados por bombas en la Segunda Guerra Mundial, pero esto trajo a la luz, por medio de una compensación parcial, la hermosa 'sinopie, que ahora se muestran en el Museo delle Sinopie. Los frescos incluyen muchos detalles reveladores de las víctimas de la muerte y generalmente se ven como un reflejo de los horrores de la muerte negra de 1348, pero algunas autoridades los consideran antes y los atribuyen al misterioso Buffalmacco.
