Este estudio fue ejecutado para el Tempietto, una pequeña iglesia en el patio de San Pietro en Montorio en Roma. Se cree que el patio es el lugar del martirio de San Pedro. El arquitecto trabajó claramente de una tipología histórica: elementos arquitectónicos individuales como columnas, entablatura y bóveda reconocen una deuda con las estructuras clásicas. El edificio centralizado resultante representaba un nuevo tipo de arquitectura cristiana.
