La escena histórica representando el momento en que el primer presidente de la República, el mariscal Deodoro da Fonseca, juró la Constitución Federal el 26 de febrero de 1891. La pintura representa a varios diputados que son miembros de la Asamblea Nacional Constituyente, presidida por Prudente de Moraes, cuya figura ocupa el centro de la pintura. Actualmente, la obra se exhibe en el Salón Ministerial del Palácio do Catete (Museu da República).
