Un hombre y una mujer en un bote de remos casi al atardecer, sus reflejos en el agua. Tiene un paraguas, tiene los remos. No se miran. Detrás de ellos, el mar tranquilo y el continente. Schjeldrup consiguió su educación en París e Italia donde tuvo el mayor éxito como pintor de género y retrato. Fue encargada de pintar retratos de varias figuras noruegas importantes como el gran compositor noruego Edvard Grieg. Sus pinturas de género a menudo tenían motivos anecdóticos de la naturaleza noruega y situaciones cotidianas.
