Este busto de bronce representa a una joven con una expresión dolorosa, su cabeza inclinada hacia abajo, sus hombros azotados en angustia. En lugar de presentar un retrato individual, el artista personificó la emoción de la tristeza con una figura genérica. Influenciado por los contornos fluidos del Art Nouveau, el artista siguió la tendencia de finales del siglo XIX de alejarse de un enfoque clásico del arte para hacer espacio para exploraciones complejas de la psicología humana y la agencia.
