Enfermeras del 3er Hospital General de Londres, Wandsworth, se imaginan asistir a un paciente recién llegado. Aunque se completó en 1921, un artículo en la Gaceta Darling Downs de noviembre de 1918 señaló que "En su tiempo libre el sargento Coates está pintando una gran composición llamada Bringing in the Wounded, la escena de la cual es la sala de recepción del Hospital Wandsworth. " (Personal, Darling Downs Gazette (Qld), 12 de noviembre de 1918, p. 4) El título de la obra hace referencia a las primeras víctimas que encontró el artista – soldados británicos y australianos heridos en Gallipoli. George Coates sirvió con el Cuerpo Médico del Ejército Real de abril de 1915 a abril de 1919, junto con otros artistas australianos Arthur Streeton, Tom Roberts y AH Fullwood. Junto con este cuadro principal, completó una serie de retratos significativos mientras prestaba servicio en el hospital, trabajando en una pequeña alcoba cerrada en la sala de recreación, que le servía de estudio.
