A finales del 31 de octubre de 1917, la cuarta brigada de caballos de luz fue ordenada a galopar hacia Beersheba y apoderarse de la ciudad. Dos regimientos, el cuarto y el 12, hicieron la carga audaz y exitosa, uno de los últimos cargos importantes de caballería en la historia. Cuando visitó Beersheba en marzo de 1918 Lambert había montado el curso que la batalla había tomado para los jinetes de la luz, saltando en las trincheras para “conseguir el espíritu de la cosa”.
