Georges Jacob (1739-1814) se especializó en el estilo neoclásico, que gradualmente suplantó el estilo Rococo desde mediados del siglo XVIII. La famosa reina de Luis XVI, Marie Antoinette, era fan de este estilo más simple y simétrico. Esta silla lleva la inscripción “Meuble de la Crowne” (Furniture of the Crown) bajo el asiento y fue hecha para el Palacio en St. Cloud. El palacio, que estaba magníficamente situado en una colina con vistas al Sena, fue comprado por el rey como un retiro para la reina y sus hijos.
