La vista panorámica de Lane de su ciudad natal está a medio camino entre la pintura de género y el paisaje, y nos presenta al movimiento Luminista, una corriente dentro de la pintura paisajística que difiere del sentimentalismo y la grandicuencia del arte de Cole y la obra de los pintores del río Hudson.
