En Nieuwe Kerk, o Nueva Iglesia, en la ciudad de Delft, algunos visitantes están mirando la tumba de Guillermo de Orange, el Padre de la Patria. Nuestra vista del monumento está obstruida por la gran columna blanca con graffiti del siglo XVII. Houckgeest fue un importante innovador del interior de la iglesia holandesa. Fue el primer artista en representar espacios usando una perspectiva diagonal, más que en su longitud o amplitud, dando así a la escena un efecto natural más accidental.
