Cuando los libros impresos comenzaron a suplantar manuscritos, sus fabricantes se esforzaron para hacer que el producto se viera como libros escritos a mano. En este libro de horas, ilustraciones impresas cortadas de madera fueron "iluminadas" con color, como los libros de color que se llenaron con pintura de mano. Este libro fue hecho por los hermanos Gilles y Germain Hardouyn, que fueron registrados en París como impresoras e iluminadores.
