Veerendael fue uno de los pintores de flores más importantes activos en Amberes durante la segunda mitad del siglo XVII. Sus pinturas muestran una notable atención al detalle y el artista fue muy admirado por esto incluso en su propio día. Esta pintura representa una vida muerta de tulipanes variegados, una rosa, carnación, un iris y otras flores en un jarrón de vidrio, descansando sobre una cornisa de piedra envuelta con un paño, junto con una mariposa.
